Crossovers are the auto-tuned pop music of the automotive world: engineered for mass-market appeal and offensive to purists.
At least, that was the case in 2008. Now, crossovers like the BMW X1 showcase how despite the higher center of mass, tall cars can drive like the yesteryear’s sports cars. Plus, it offers 31 MPG highway, quadruple the cargo space of a sedan and room for tall friends to sit in the back without a chiropractor on standby.
My only dig is that its $34k MSPR is misleading; simple options will catapult the price past $40k. Still, worth it.
