As CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta, Alicia Philipp oversaw a grant-making organization that donated more than $100 million annually to non-profit organizations.
In early 2020 she went to Portugal to visit her daughter who lives there with her family and runs a farm. Stuck there after the pandemic, Alicia still ran the company and planned to return to Atlanta before her retirement in the summer.
Flight after flight was cancelled, until she got one in June 2020. A few days before her flight, she thought, “Why am I going back?” She had no good answer. So she didn’t.
