Young woman seeks to uncover her past in ‘Anastasia’

by Jan Schroder

Based on the 1997 American animated musical fantasy drama film, “Anastasia” opened on Broadway in 2017 and is now touring, playing at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta December 6-11.

The story is loosely based on the story of Anastasiya Nikolayevna, the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II, the last emperor of Russia. The entire family was executed in 1918. Rumors persisted for decades that Anastasia was still alive with several women claiming to be her.

Set in the 1920s, ‘Anastasia” tells the story of a young woman who tries to uncover her mysterious past. The show’s next stop is Cincinnati, Ohio.
