You can watch planes land at Charlotte Douglas International Airport from the new Airport Overlook that has a view of the airfield and terminal. But there’s so much more to do in the 600,000-square-foot space that includes a food truck area and an aviation-themed playground.
Kids can slide down from the mini air traffic control tower, “drive” a fueling truck and climb on a plane-shaped structure. There’s also a retired U.S. military fighter jet and exhibits covering aviation history in the state, which seems fitting considering the Wright Brothers made their first flight in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in 1903.
