Best Sandwiches on the Planet: Peameal Bacon

peameal bacon sandwich

Luckily for me, my husband shares my travel=food mentality. When I told him and our co-worker Ted that our work trip to Toronto had to include a trip to the St. Lawrence Market for a peameal sandwich, he was in.

I suggested Carousel Bakery for this traditional Torontonian dish. The lines were long, but the smell of sizzling pork was worth the wait. While bacon is made from the belly of the pig, peameal bacon is wet-cured pork loin that’s rolled in cornmeal.

The sandwich is served sizzling hot on a kaiser bun, best accompanied by mustard.
