It’s true that Asheville has amazing hotels, like the Omni Grove Park Inn, The Inn on Biltmore Estate and the Grand Bohemian Asheville.

But maybe for your next visit you want something more unique. And the best news? These treehouses aren’t the open-air, rough wood, riddled-with-nails structures from your childhood. Or at least from mine.

Many of these beautiful treehouse vacation rentals are totally luxurious, complete with antique furniture, oriental rugs, fireplaces, Wi-Fi and luxury linens.

Many have fully equipped kitchens and feature granite countertops while the bathrooms are what you’d expect in a luxury hotel. You can find just about any feature you want in some of the treehouses in Asheville, NC.

Another bonus is that several of them are completely private, located on several acres of wooded land, and many have gorgeous mountain views.

Prices for treehouses can vary widely. The ones listed here are available on Airbnb and start at around $50 for the more rustic ones and go up to $500+ a night, excluding fees and cleaning service.

Asheville is one of my favorite cities in the South. Located in western North Carolina, it’s nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains and has a walkable downtown filled with museums, stores, breweries and restaurants.

Historic attractions include The Biltmore, the largest home in the United States, and the home of Thomas Wolfe. [Insert your own “you can’t go home again” joke.]

Nature lovers can hike, zipline, raft on the French Broad River, slide down a 60-foot waterslide or take a drive on the gorgeous Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountain Parkway.

While it didn’t really fit my idea of a tree house as it’s barely elevated in the middle section, Tara’s Treehouse is so stunning I had to share it. While some people may think of staying in a treehouse as a form of glamping, a stay here is true luxury.

This spacious luxury home has a large living room, huge kitchen and living area with a wood-burning fireplace, air conditioning, heat, Wi-Fi, washer and dryer, wrap-around deck with gas grill and a fire pit. And it’s pet-friendly.

Tara’s Treehouse is in Fairview, less than 20 minutes from downtown Asheville and 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s also close to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure.

Tips for Renting Treehouses

Renting a treehouse can be a bit different from traditional house rentals. Here are our tips to make the most of your stay.

• Book early.
We highly recommend you book as early as possible. Asheville treehouses are wildly popular and book up fast. If you’ve fallen in love with one particular treehouse, contact the owners for cancellations. You might get lucky. Or go ahead and book your favorite for next year.

• Read the reviews.
Yeah, we all read reviews to see what recent guests say about the property. But I’ve also found them really useful to learn more details, like which hiking trails they recommend or which restaurants guests enjoyed. I’ve found a wealth of helpful tips and other information from reading reviews.

• Consider what you really need and want for your treehouse rental.
Are you going to be eating all your meals out? Then you may not need that fully equipped kitchen. Consider whether you’d like these things when booking your Asheville treehouse rentals: hot tub, firepit, wifi, TV, grill, covered porch, full bathroom

• Don’t assume anything.
These are not traditional rentals like other vacation homes. Don’t assume you’ll have indoor plumbing, electricity, wifi, air conditioning and heat.

• Ask about extra fees and cancellation policies.
Make sure you know all the costs before you book, including any reservation, cleaning or pet fees. If cancellation is a possibility, make sure you know what the policy is.

• Read the fine print.
Are pets allowed? Can you bring your own firewood or do you need to purchase some? Is a four-wheel drive car recommended? Some treehouses have ladders or a spiral staircase to a loft where a bedroom is. Are you comfortable with that?

Also please note that some of the treehouse rentals in Asheville, NC, are open year round while others are seasonal. Some may require a minimum stay depending on the time of year.

• Determine if the location works for you.
Do you want to be completely private or is it okay to have several other properties around you? Whichever you choose, you may have to research a bit to figure out how the treehouse is situated in comparison to others.

Do you want to be close to restaurants, shopping, hiking trails or a state park?
