What New York City Landmark Inspired This Glorious Chapel Carved into Red Rocks in the Desert?

by Jan Schroder

Staring up at the giant cross surrounded by massive red rocks I was instantly stopped in my tracks. Once inside, I felt the presence of God.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross, in Sedona, Arizona, has that stunning effect on people. The dream of sculptor and rancher Marguerite Staude, this tiny chapel draws hordes of tourists every year, and it’s easy to see why.

Views beyond the glass-walled sanctuary expose miles of sweeping red rock landscape that is the heart of Sedona. Walls seem to reverberate prayers and blessings of the past. If you need to find God, He’s here.

Please see our story “How Sedona, Arizona, Won My Heart.”
