Imagine if Waffle House began selling really good sushi. Or Adele put out a great heavy metal album. Confused? That’s how I feel testing Hyundai’s recent lineup of sublime sports cars.
If you haven’t heard, Genesis is Hyundai’s equivalent to Lexus. Their midrange offering is the G80: a rock-solid luxury sports sedan that checks almost every box. It’s astonishingly comfortable, civilized, and well-equipped, but also sharp, fast, and agile.
I wish Genesis would come out of their shell by offering louder exhausts to complement the car’s natural sportiness, but it’s a forgivable omission given the G80’s generous $56k price tag.
