Would You Go on the World’s Scariest Hike?

It’s the most popular hike in Zion National Park. It may also the scariest hike in the world. Angels Landing Trail in Utah reportedly got its name when a group of hikers in 1916 looked up from Zion Canyon at the giant fin-like mountain formation and said, “Only an angel could land on that.”

The 5-mile round trip hike is difficult but fairly manageable for the first 4.5 miles, which includes a series of 21 steep switchbacks called Walter’s Wiggles. It’s that last 1/2 mile when hikers have to creep along a sandstone spine with 1000-foot drop-offs on either side.
