Standing in the streets of Old Town Istanbul, my brother Mike and I peered at apps on our phones, unable to locate the #1-rated restaurant. Having been approached by hawkers all week, we initially ignored the gentleman offering help.
Recep Cok is an Istanbul native, married to a Charleston woman, and owner of a tribal artifact collection in a stunning seven-story walkup. He explained TripAdvisor may be reliable in America, but not Turkey. He joined us and steered us to an amazing dinner at Sura Restaurant. Following a private tour of his home, we exchanged cards, promising to reconnect soon.
