When you say Italian food, what comes to mind? Probably spaghetti. Japanese? Sushi. Mexican? Tacos. But what about West African?
To find out, I visited Ike’s Cafe & Grill, which specializes in West African food and has locations in Kumasi, Ghana and three in Atlanta, Georgia. We started with a spicy pineapple ginger tea and some Moi Moi (steamed beans cake with onions and peppers). Then came the main event: my buddy tried Edikaikong (a rich soup made with indigenous leafy veggies) and I went for the Waakye: a traditional dish with rice and beans, plantains, chicken, egg and spaghetti noodles.
