Thanks to a partnership between Atlanta-based security startup Liberty Defense and technology from the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, soon passengers will no longer have to take their shoes off in airport security lines.

Instead, they will step onto a platform that scans for threatening objects in just seconds, keeping those long TSA lines moving much quicker.

Liberty Defense CEO Bill Frain said his team is anticipating deploying the technology across airports in the next 18 months. This could not come at a better time as the travel industry rebounds. We hope the limitations on liquids change next.
