The best antidote I know to city stress is to get on the water or walk through the woods. Luckily, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area just north of Atlanta has opportunities for both.
The park has 48 miles of river and 15 land units with hiking, biking and mountain biking trails, historic ruins and places to rent kayaks, paddleboards, tubes and canoes. Fishing for trout is optimal in the always-chilly waters.
Pick up trail maps at the Island Ford Visitor Center, located in a 1930s log cabin. This location also has miles of hiking trails and picnic areas.
