Forget shoes – it’s all about handbags for me. So I was in heaven when I toured Tassen Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam.
More than 5,000 handbags are displayed in a beautiful canal home, covering 500 years of history of the handbag, with examples from every era, some of them exquisite works of art. Handbags are made of every material from ivory, leather and plastic to lizards, armadillo and ostriches in shapes ranging from a cupcake to a champagne bucket.
It started when founder Hendrikje Ivo found one tortoiseshell plate bag and her passion for collecting was sparked.
