Things Have Changed Since That Midnight Train to Georgia

I fly almost every week, but last month I decided to take a train from Seattle to Portland. Things have changed a lot – for the better – since I used to take the overnight train to college in the 1970s.

Before, my only distractions were reading a book, watching towns pass by or meeting others in the bar car. All those are still options but these days – with wifi, fold-down desks and electric outlets at each seat  – I can be productive within seconds of boarding.

And no commutes into town – I just disembark at upgraded center-city stations and walk to meetings.
