I’ve never talked so loud and so incessantly. We were hiking in Glacier National Park in Montana and my goal was to repel any wandering bears with my constant chatter. It worked.
After recent unfortunate encounters of humans with bears in the wild in the parks, the National Park Service issued some reminders to take precautions.
• Never approach a bear.
• Stay alert and avoid headphones on trails.
• Hike in groups when possible.
• Make noise near streams, dense vegetation and blind corners.
• Store food, trash and scented items properly.
• Carry bear spray where recommended and allowed.
• Never run from a bear.
