After you book refundable room, do this a few weeks out

If your travel plans are subject to change, you’ll want to book a hotel room with free cancellation. Here’s one extra step to take if you want to save money on that room.

Start checking the rate  you received about three weeks before your reservation date. Using dynamic pricing software, properties change their rates constantly depending on occupancy, competitor rates and how far out the reservation is.

Keep checking  your reservation right up until the time you can cancel it, even up until the last minute. If the rate has lowered, book a new room and cancel the old one.
