More than 9 million people visit Trevi Fountain in Rome every year, making it one of the most visited landmarks in the world. The crowds have become so large that starting February 1, visitors will have to pay 2 euros (around $2.35) to see the famous fountain.
It’s a small price to pay if you believe in the Three-Coin Legend. Toss one coin with your right hand over your left shoulder, and you’ll return to Rome; two coins and you’ll find love, three coins and you’ll get married.
The money is collected twice a week and donated to a non-profit Catholic organization.

Approximately 3000 euros a day (approximately $3,560) is thrown into Trevi Fountain, more than $1.3 million a year. The 18th-century Baroque fountain was completed in 1762 and has been called the most beautiful fountain in the world. The story of the three coins comes from the 1954 movie “Three Coins in a Fountain” with a title song sung by Frank Sinatra.
