In a typical year 70 percent of Americans take a vacation. This past year that figure plummeted to 21 percent.

With optimism about the availability of a vaccine, more Americans are thinking of hitting the road, with 56 percent of travelers saying they will plan a trip this year, according to a survey done by Morning Consult for the American Hotel & Lodging Association.

The travel industry is not expected to rebound all at once. Leisure travel will increase first, followed by travel for small and medium events. Group and business travel will be the last to increase from 2020 levels.
