Best intro to a new city, and it’s free!

LiLiana Cardoso leads a tour in Lisbon, Portugal.

We walked miles over cobblestoned streets, down narrow alleys and up steep staircases on our walking tours in Portugal, learning fun facts about each place.

Realizing we only had one day in Faro and not willing to play tour guide, I researched walking tours and found a free one. Our guide was very good, and the only surprise was the length of the tour – almost three hours.

I easily found free walking tours in Lisbon, Porto and Lagos, with excellent guides in each city. Some even mailed us suggestions on what to do and where to eat after the tour.

See tips on taking walking tours in our story, “100 tips for visiting Portugal.”
