You can’t be a happy traveler if you worry too much about germs. But taking some precautions can prevent illness, or just being grossed-out.

Here are three things you should always clean in your hotel room, one of which was a complete shocker to us.

1. The remote control.
Almost everybody touches it. But does it ever get cleaned? Don’t count on it.
2. Glasses.
While these are theoretically washed, studies show not sufficiently. Always clean these in soap and hot water.
3. The bedside lamp switch.
Every single person uses it and it is never, if ever cleaned.
