Ferris wheel in Oklahoma City

From the sandy West Coast beach of Santa Monica to the rocky south bank of the Oklahoma River, the big Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel keeps on turnin’ in Oklahoma City, over 1,300 miles from its original home.

The famed Ferris wheel was purchased on eBay in 2008 by developer Grant Humphreys for $132,400, with half of the proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Southern California. After a $1 million refurbishment, the Ferris wheel was erected in OKC’s Wheeler District. With 20 gondolas and 5,392 lights, the ride is said to be the world’s first solar-powered Ferris wheel.
