No weigh! Will we all have to step on a scale before boarding an airplane?

We understand planes need to monitor the amount of weight onboard. But weighing passengers at the gate? That seems going weigh overboard.

Finnair will begin weighing passengers and their carry-ons at Helsinki Airport later this year. They claim the weighing will be voluntary and anonymous. Why would anyone who is sensitive about their weight – which in our unscientific survey is about 98% of all humans – volunteer to hop on a scale?

They aren’t the first airlines to do so. Air New Zealand and Korean Air have weighed passengers as well.

We suggest they do what helicopters do – a group weigh-in.
